چکیده

Storing HMAC and IV informtion in a drive’s NVRAM is costly. It would require 54 GB of memory to store this information for a 1 TB drive. Additionally, we do not want to store this information on disk because of the need for fast, parallel access to metadata for policy decisions (e.g., access decisions for information flow labels). We thus require methods of mitigating NVRAM storage costs. We group multiple blocks of data together in an access unit that we call an integrity set.

A Case for Network-Attached Secure Disks (CMU-CS-96-142)

By providing direct data transfer between storage and client, network-attached storage devices have the potential to improve scalability (by removing the server as a bottleneck) and performance (through network striping and shorter data paths). Realizing the technology’s full potential requires careful consideration across a wide range of file system, networking and security issues. To address ...

Decidability of Robot Manipulation Planning: Three Disks in the Plane

This paper considers the problem of planning collision-free motion of three disks in the plane. One of the three disks, the robot, can autonomously translate in the plane, the other two move only when in contact with the robot. This represents the abstract formulation of a manipulation planning problem. Despite the simplicity of the formulation, the decidability of the problem had remained unpr...

Active Disks: A Scenario For Cost-effective Massive Data Processing

By providing direct data transfer between storage and client, networkattached storage devices have the potential to improve scalability for existing distributed file systems (by removing the server as a bottleneck) and bandwidth for parallel and distributed file systems (through network striping and more efficient data paths). Together, these advantages influence a large enough fraction of the ...
